Counselling for trauma

"There is a crack in everything, that's where the light gets in."

Leonard Cohen

While trauma touches all of us at some point in our lives, living with unresolved trauma is painful and takes a toll on our sense of self and capacity for resilience. Our core wounds and psychological hurts can change how we view relationships, people, and the world. Bringing a lens of ‘what has happened to you’ and not ‘what is wrong with you’ focuses on a more compassionate, human, and collaborative approach rather than a symptom-driven one.

Trauma presents itself in myriad forms and is often unpredictable, sometimes being triggered decades later by something seemingly unrelated. You might be suffering from anxiety and depression, experiencing flashbacks, intrusive thoughts or symptoms of PTSD. Although your experiences may impact every area of your life, trauma doesn’t have to define you. Counselling can form part of your journey to effectively cope with trauma, become unstuck from the past, and find meaning and purpose in life.

“The world breaks everyone, then some become strong at the broken places.”

-Ernest Hemingway

My approach
I offer a warm, genuine, encouraging, and respectful space to help you work through the complexities of trauma or PTSD.

Counselling with a trauma informed approach can offer you valuable perspectives and strategies to regulate your emotions and feel safer in the present. These might include sensory or somatic techniques, rewind therapy, mindfulness, and CBT, to help you to avoid being overwhelmed emotionally, and to address the things that trigger you. In addition, creative therapies can help you to express emotions nonverbally, while mindfulness techniques can be effective for restoring the relationship between mind and body. Working together, we will help you to develop a toolbox so it will become increasingly easier to manage symptoms when they arise which can enable you to be present with yourself in a different way.

I am a professionally trained practitioner of the Rewind Technique and registered with the International Association for Rewind Trauma Therapy. I work closely with emergency services, charities, and war veterans.
