Counselling for individuals

“I now see how owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do.”

- Brene Brown

Individual counselling

Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to get a sense of how it feels to work with me. When we first meet we will look together at what is happening for you, how it is affecting different areas of your life, and what you might like to be different. By the end of this session you will have a clearer understanding if beginning therapy feels right for you.  I understand it can be an overwhelming task to find the right therapist for you. If you are unsure, I am happy to answer any questions you may have about your specific situation and how I can be of help. Please do get in touch to arrange an initial telephone conversation with me.

Maybe you are facing difficulties with past trauma or fear of the future and you've reached a breaking point. You might feel things have to change but don’t know where to start. Or maybe you feel stuck, or held back by limiting beliefs, negative thought patterns and overwhelmed by emotions? Whatever brings you to seek support, my aim is to meet you where you are and help you get to where you want to be. We all have within us, the capacity to create long-lasting change, to live bravely in our own skin and live the lives we want.

Our sessions together will be conversations. I am an active therapist,  and I take a genuine interest in your experience. Counselling gives you the space to talk about whatever you are experiencing and for your life story to be heard and validated. I listen with empathy and respect, and often share my thoughts and new perspectives. Counselling can help you to understand the reasons behind the issues that bring you to counselling, which are often rooted in our past. Without paying attention to our own history, I believe it is hard to achieve the change we hope for in the present.

My work is informed and inspired by humanistic (relational, person- centred), psychodynamic, attachment focused theories, somatic approaches,  CBT, transactional analysis and mindfulness.
