When faced with difficulties, many of us try to cope alone. Friends and family cannot always help, which can leave us feeling stuck, hopeless and unaware of what to do. Counselling provides a confidential, non-judgmental, and safe environment where we can explore and make sense of what is causing you pain and hurt. My aim is to help you develop the confidence and courage to move forward and overcome obstacles that can feel impossible in everyday life. One of my core beliefs as a therapist is the human capacity for growth and that clients of all backgrounds, identities and lifestyles can grow to trust and believe in their own gifts and unique perspectives. I would be honoured to share this deeply personal and unique journey with you.

Integrative counselling uses several models or methods of counselling in a way which can be tailored to suit the individual client. You are unique, and what would work well for you is not necessarily what would work for other people. 

My approach draws from Psychodynamic therapy as I believe it can be important to understand the reasons behind the issues that bring you to counselling which are often rooted in the past. Our relationships influence every aspect of being human, our thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and sense of self are shaped by our interpersonal relationships, both past and present. Childhood relationships influence the adult that we become, shaping our patterns of communication, emotional experience, intimate relationships, and way of living in the world. We have the capacity to overcome our early experiences and counselling can facilitate a better understanding of how experience has shaped your identity, values, beliefs, and emotional difficulties. Without understanding our own history, I believe it is hard to achieve the change we hope for in the present. 

My approach is attachment focused which is a very human, compassionate process, that enables us to take time and space to begin to develop a stronger sense of who we really are. Depending on your needs, I also integrate a variety of other approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis, and creative and Mindfulness-based interventions. ​

Trauma therapy

Perhaps you have experienced trauma in your life, such as abuse, traumatic incidents, sudden loss, violence or life changing events. You might have experienced prolonged, repeated  traumatic experiences beginning in childhood and are left feeling isolated and vulnerable. I work with clients whose traumatic or painful experiences, either recent or past, are contributing to their current problems or difficulties, and recognise their courage and potential for growth. Counselling can help to facilitate healing, a sense of meaning, and to enable you to live life more fully. ​Whatever your hurts and struggles, I am honoured to walk alongside you on your journey of healing.

Rewind trauma therapy

The Rewind Therapy (RT)  has  become internationally recognised as indispensable to treat traumatic memories. It is a technique that reliably relieves nightmares, panic attacks, flashbacks and intrusive memories while minimizing the risk of a client being re-traumatized. Treatment is safe and suitable for victims of sexual assault, crime, combat, violence, traumatic incidents and PTSD, as the client does not have to disclose details of what happened. Hence the treatment is known as "closure without disclosure."  The Rewind offers a way of filing the traumatic event so it comes under control. Clinical experience shows it to be a cost effective and successful treatment and results are usually rapid. It can also be of help with many phobias. I am a professionally trained practitioner of the rewind technique and work closely with emergency services, various charities and war veterans.
